    Help with 2002 Seadoo 4tec

Ok so i purchased this ski last September not running. Since then I have pulled motor and sent out for rebuild. Rebuilt jet pump. Installed new injectors and have reassembled everything. I tried staring the ski this evening and it will not start I have checked for codes and had a 1681 code Communication problem - instrument cluster message missing. Removed key checked for codes nothing. The unit has brand new spark plugs gapped to .040 and fresh gas.

When I crank the unit the instrument cluster goes dead and the gauges sweep like when you put the key in. the battery was fully charged and load tested to 35 AH before being placed in service. I checked the cranking voltage and was dipping as low as 8vdc averaging about 9 VDc. The unit seems to want to start but it just is not starting. When i install the key I do get 2 beeps and get the annoying 2 beeps every couple of seconds. I have checked for spark on all 3 coil packs and have strong spark on all 3 plugs and coils. I have confirmed 3 ground wires at the front of the engine and all are good.

I am at the end I my knowledge base and could use a hand.

    Thanks

are the 3 ground on the front on the engine connected and tight?

What happened to the ski before you got it?

yes the 3 grounds are attached and clean. The engine had been hydrolocked and had a bent rod engine was rebuilt and methodicaly gone over bored out and totaly rebuilt.

it is almost like voltage on crank is going too low causing the ecu to reset while cranking i am not sure if it is a bad starter causing voltage to drop or a bad connection causing voltage drop

possibly starter? or something in the engine/pump that's turning hard?

ECU and Cluster will shutdown with low voltage, which sounds like what you are getting. So the engine is too tight to turn or jet pump dragging drawing all of the power, battery bad, starter bad, starter solenoid bad, bad positive wire or ground wire. Did you use an engine allignment tool? Is the prop cutting into the wear ring?

new rebuilt jet pump from sbt can turn by hand but is tight clearance all around wear ring. engine was aligned with alignment tool.

can i run the engine with the drive shaft out to eliminate tight jet pump?

maybe for a few seconds but oil will be rapidly leaking out of the engine where the drive shaft goes in.
