    Proper Voltage Reading While Running?

I've got a 01 Virage 700 single carb. Replaced both the CDI and LR505 last season to correct a no spark problem......and just installed a new Odyssey battery for this season. Put it in the water for the 1st time this year and noticed I'm getting >17 volts at WOT on the display. Other readings are a little over 14 volts at idle/partial throttle and 12.7 volts with engine shut off.

My question, is this running voltage at WOT too high? If so, will it kill my new battery?

    Thanks in advance.

Need to check it with a meter at the battery...... Displays can give false readings....

I have never heard of an MFI giving a false reading. I guess it is possible though. Definitely check it at the battery, that will give you a true reading.

OK, I checked the voltage at the battery with the ski on the trailer and battery voltage mirrors that of the display throughout the rpm range.......IOW, I'm actually getting 16-17 volts at the battery at the upper rpm range.

I'm kinda miffed.......the LR505 (new off the shelf) was installed at the end of the season last year and can't have more than a couple hours on it and the Odyssey battery is brand new!

Is replacing the LR505 my only option at this point? Is there any way Babbits would take it back or swap?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts

One of my MFI reads about 2 volts higher than actual battery voltage.

I recall some MFD also being inaccurate regarding voltage displayed.

Resetting the MFD usually fixes the voltage display reading to make it correct.
