Detuning 155 to 130?
I've got a 02 gtx 155 n/a in a rental that IDE like to detune to 130 for insurance reasons. Never tried going backwards but would swapping in a 130 ecu do the trick? Some say the cams are different but if I can swap ecu's and get the hp down I could theoretically call it a 130 to the insurance company. Thanks in advance for thoughts on this.

Your Avatar shows you own a Porsche, how much money are you trying to save here?

Porsche got sold to throw more money into the business. I'm on a state park so I have to carry a $2,000,000 liability policy on everything- so it is very expensive on the ski rentals and goes up with hp ratings. Plus if you saw most of the renters youde see why the less hp the better for most of them. I rent mostly gti le with 717 motors but want a couple 4 strokes to see how much less maintaince it will save

doesn't the insurance company go by H.I.N? the HIN would still show it as being a 155.

Just curious cant you program the slow key with a candoo or soemthing like that. Maybe you can program it to whatever speed you want?

Is it really THAT big of a difference between the 155 and 130 insurance? I'm just curious.

i would have to agree they go by hin and if your worriedabout the speed, guy that do rentals around here put something behind the throttle so you cant push it all the way

Hadn't thought about reprograming with my candoo to lower the speeds. The insurance company goes off the rated horsepower but said if I can verify that it's been detuned to a 130 then it would fall into the lower bracket.
