Wiring a Tach...Need some of you electrical Gurus !

I just received a tach I bought. The instructions are less than clear. At least to ME! It says...I need to know

    1. Where is the yellow wire from the voltage regulator?
    2. where is the orange wire coming from the alternator control switch?

I have attached a picture of the box. Since I am willing to show my ignorance, I have the "box" that has the main hot and ground wre going to it. I have the larger box to the left that I think is the CDi and I have a small circuit board Beneath that larger box that has the yel and orange wires coming from it that I have indicated on the left side of the pic!

The kit has a yel "Y" adapter and orange "Y" adapter that I am suppose to use, but I'm not sure which are the right yel and orange wires to connect to. Help! If you can describe the wires according to my pic, I can the hook them up! ThanK k YOU !!!!!!

You are looking in the wrong half of the box. Connect them to the terminal board in the other half..........

Can you post the actual installation instructions here?

    What brand is this Tachometer?

    Im guessing its a 92 or a 93

    Sorry Folks. Yes it's '93 sl650.

I found a wiring diagram and the ONLY yellow and orange wires in the box and on the diagram are the ones that come from the small box/circuit board BENEATH the CDI bo. They are the ones I refer to in the very center of the picture. That appears to be the ones????? The ground goes to the center ground lug in the pic.

And, it's a 1993 Tach made by Polaris for Polaris. Found it on line, new, still in the shrinkwrap!

Then Im guessing you have to undo a few connections and insert the y harness.

All Yellow wires inside the electrical box are the same RPM signal. And battery charging regulation, but don't get confused by that.

Note that one of the wires you identified is actually a Yellow wire with a Red stripe (Yellow/Red). That would be a starter solenoid wire, connected to the solenoid.

All Black wires are the same electrical ground.

The Orange wires are effectively switched Accessory power, and again they are all connected together.

    Summary;
Black is ground for the tachometer.
Orange is power for the tach, but only when engine is running.
Yellow is RPM signal to the tachometer.
