    2000 Ultra 150 wont go past 10mph!

Took the ski out on the lake the other day, first attempt it wouldn't start so went and got a new battery installed. Still wouldn't fire up so took it to a mechanic who cleaned the plugs and said there was some fuel in the motor from when I tried to start it. He cleared it out and started up fine, when on the lake it wouldn't go past 58mph which was a little weird, then it just turned off and would only let me go 10mph! Any one have this problem before? About to go now and replace the spark plugs.

See what the plugs look like. You ought to run a compression test while you have them out.

Thanks, I don't have the equipment to do a compression test. Changed the spark plugs, started up and sounded pretty good. My buddy told me to change the fuel filter too and it looks like theres some dirt in it so maybe thats what caused it? I guess the only way to see is take it out on the water.

Take a look at the exhaust house from stinger to muffler too.
if it burns through, the engine would run like this too.
you really need a compression test though as steve says.

Well then get the tool to do the compression check. Sounds to me you have 0 compression in one of the cylinders.

You can pick up a compression tester at any auto parts store for about $25.

At the very least, remove the spark plug and hold your thumb over the hole while you crank the engine (don't stick your finger IN the hole!). If you can hold your thumb in place while cranking, you don't have enough compression.

did a compression test it worked fine...there was some debris in the fuel filter so I replaced that and it seems to be good now..we will see once I get it out on the water
