Personally, I would look to get a leftover....I bought a brand new 09 FZR in 2011 for $10K out the door with a Load Rite Trailer.

+1, I don't see any reason to buy a new model if you can save thousands on an identical hold-over.
Of course if money is no option then newer is great, maybe they upgraded the clutches and other items... but the 09's were solid anyway.

To the OP; FZ's are hard to beat if you like an athletic ride, excellent durability, low maintenance with great speed and huge upside mod potential for monster speed. They are fun; best ridden in a stand up position and they put you in touch with the water like a sports car, not a boring dull "ladies ride" like some others. FZ's do a good job of bridging the gap between smooth and rough water performance. We suggest a $200 grate for improved safety but once you add that you are good to go; we have almost 400 combined hours on ours with zero issues.

If you are wanting a brand new model make sure you look at the new FX SHO as well, and if you need excellent fuel economy check out the VXR/S as well. Any of the Yamahas will serve you well...
