tie down using the tow hook - okay?

Just wondering if it's okay to use the tow hook to tie the skis down to the trailer. I've seen photos of it done like that, but now sure of peeps experiences with it done that way. Anybody have bad input?

It will put permanent dents on your rub rail. The guy before me did that to my ski and I can't get them out.

Structurally it is ok to do it. As said above, it will put creases in your rub rails. What's wrong with tying them down with the two on the transom?

I picked up heavier-duty ratchet straps because my other ones were slipping. The new ones have a loop sewn at a location that wont allow the ratchet to tighten sufficiently and leaves them loose if I were to use them at the transom. I CAN pull the sewn seam through the ratchet area, but it was easier to just tie down to the tow hook. They are also VERY long straps and I will have to cut them down alot. I'll do it today because I don't want any marks. Thanks for the input.

I tie mine down with the tow hook. I always put microfiber towels under the straps at the rear of the machine. Granted it is a 2012 model but I have had no issues yet.

Why don't you use the normal tiedowns?

Take note everybody, that the DOT (and Canadian MTO) have started to crack down on the requirement for securemeng straps to show proper capacity ratings on them, the same as commercial requirements. They should have a tag, or it have it stitched right into the material.

Although highly unlikely, if you ever end up with a roadside/dockside inspection, using cheap unmarked or non-rated secure meant straps could be an issue for ya.

OT, but just a public service announcement.

How the heck are you guys using the eyes on the bottom of the hull to tie down to? It's too short of a distance for ANY of my straps to tie down to that point. it doesn't leave me enough room to tighten the strap. lol

Use boat straps. I'll shoot a pic shortly.
