    1999 SLX 1050 Ignition Update

I think I need to install an ignition update for my 1999 SLX 1050. It's running terrible. Only runs on 1 or 2 cylinders above 3000 rpm. Does anyone know the part number and where I can get it? Thanks!

First check the compression it's one of the easiest tests to run. Pickup a tester for $30 at the local automotive store or harbor freight.

next, try disconnecting each plug wire one by one and see which cylinders have problems. It should be able to run on a single cylinder if everything with that particular cylinder is okay. You can also feel the cylinders to see how hot each is. Then you'll know for sure which is giving you the problem(s).

check plugs, install new plugs gapped properly.

I cannot find the 2873356 Ignition kit. Will the 2873091 kit work? What's the difference?

The compression is good. At idle, all 3 cylinders are firing. The problem is only at rpm above 3500.

Timing is the same, I think the difference was the exit hole in the stator housing was redesigned. So if you purchase the 2873091, you will also need to purchase a pre 99 stator housing.

Someone correct me if im wrong!

I think you have it correct.

The CDI in both three cylinder kits is the same part number. The 1999 update kit stator is different only in that the 1999 version of the 1050 stator housing cable exit design is the same as all later year factory domestic engines.

Another approach is to buy the '091 kit and also buy a new 4010170 stator. It will fit the stator housing you have and work with the update CDI.

You can sell the new 4010402 stator from the kit to offset the cost of buying a separate 4010170 stator.

Can I modify the flywheel housing to fit this stator?
