1200 ate a ring : (
My XLT has 170+ hours on it and today it let go on me... I started it up on my lift to make sure everything is all good like I normally do before I drop her in the water, but today it was all but. It turned over, idled poorly and shook. The ski stalled out so I restarted and blipped the throttle to get her going. After hearing all sorts of dreaded noises the motor just seized up....I am glad it happened at my dock and not out in the water.
I took the exhaust and head off today just to see some of the carnage...pics attached.
For all you experts...What should I do here? The gouges in the cylinder are pretty deep...It looks like the front cylinder just ate the ring and spit it out of the exhaust. The other two look good, but if I wiggle the pistons with my fingers there is a pretty decent amount of play between the piston and cylinder wall. Normal? Or badly warn? For my hours, what is the best plan of attack here for the rebuild? Is the head still usable?
Oil lines are good and the carbs were rebuilt last year. Power vale in bad cylinder looks ok.
