    Yamaha 2002 FX140 stall and rough.

    Hi All,
    My first post on Yamaha section of GreenHulk. I also have a Polaris and a SeaDoo. They are both 2-strokers. GreenHulk has been very helpful.

    2002 FX140 was running great. All of a sudden, while my nephew was riding, it stalled. Started briefly, but ran poorly, stalled again quickly. Had to be towed in.
    Later in the day my son and I took a quick look at it and it started right up. Ran at idle for a few minutes then stalled. Started hard.

    We noticed a more throaty exhaust note than usual with seats off. Discovered that large diameter exhaust hose downstream from water box, actually last rubber hose connected
    to drive housing had come off. This meant that engine was exhausting into engine compartment. Never had a chance to test after reconnecting this hose due to doing this repair in the rain and running out of time.
    I will not be back there until Saturday.

    My theory, but I'm not knowledgeable enough about these engines yet, is that the computer was trying to compensate for lack of oxygen, or was totally confused by the high concentration
    of carbon monoxide it was seeing and it either shut down as a fail safe, or couldn't react to the condition. If it helps to know, it has Riva velocity stack/filter set-up.

    Does this explanation sound plausible to anyone who understands the fuel injection control system?? As I said I did not yet test results of reconnecting the exhaust hose.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    it was choking itself with exhaust thats why it would die out, Now that you connected it back you should be fine.
