    Going to look at Sl1050

First post here at the Hulk!

I am going to be looking to buy a 1997 SL1050 being sold here locally. Don't know much about Polaris skis and was wondering what common issues are with theses and what I should keep my eyes open for when I go to look at it.

On the phone he said it has had a new top end and the crank was gone through at the same time.

I would imagine this would be able to pull a tube or a 200 lbs skier correct?

In several states it is illegal to pull a skier with a 2 seat PWC. Most require a 3 seater (Driver, spotter and a spot for the skier/tuber). Thats is why the two seters have no tow hooks.

I have looked into this and as far as I understand it, in MN all we need is either a spotter OR mirrors in order to pull a skier. Somebody please correct me if I am wrong though.

The SL 1050 didn't come with mirrors, I think the only model was the 99' that had them. You can of course add the mirrors of an SLT they will fit right onto the hood. The engine will have the grunt to pull a skier, the problem is the hull is way to small and nimble it will be challenging for the driver.

Yeah this one has the mirrors. I am guessing the current owner put them on. Any mechanical issues I should be on the lookout for?

Also, how are the oil pumps on these? Should a block off kit be my first mod?

Oil pumps are fine. Check over all of the lines and the filter and make sure its all up to par. The ignition systems are the gremlin on that ski, however, if it has been updated you will be fine. If not, the update costs about 350 bucks, and plan on doing it at some point.

That's the 97/98 model there, no factory mirrors. I must admit I do like the 99 shape with the mirrors that was a very sexy release. I think it was the last of the 1050's too.

THe 97 I am going to look at HAS mirrors. Like what was said earlier they are probably from an SLT or something. It also has a tow hook. The one I am going to look at is exactly like the one la90043 posted, I wish it had some Hydroturf on it however. Getting excited to look at this thing! From the knowledge gained on this site, these seem to be pretty dang good machines as long as they are maintained.
