Has anybody tried a Pro-tec cdi ?
I see that pro-tec is still making CDI's for the GP1200 (65u). Has anyone out there tried one? If so were there any good performance gains? I did a search but didn't find a lot of opinions on it.

I just had mine modded by protec for my 1200 Blaster 1. It wont provide any gains persay, it just increases the rev limit to 8100RPM. With the stock 144 pump I was nailing the rev limit on my blaster. Unless you're hitting the rev limit with your pump loaded, you wont notice any gains besides the fact that when your pump breaks the water it will re-enter at higher RPM, which will help a lot in the chop.

So having a stock cdi modified is the same benefit as buying a pro-tec cdi? I thought maybe there were different spark timings or something like that.

As far as I know, Pro-tec does not make CDIs, they modify OEM CDIs. This is only a rev limit modification and does not affect the curve. They sell Advent CDIs though. Not sure if Advent makes one for the 65U.

Thanks for the replies. It would be much cheaper to send in my stock cdi. Only $155.00 to modify.
