    96 slt 780 pump seal

the print shows that there are 2 seals over 1 bearing and none over the other....this seems strange to me...

i guess the black cone seals this bearing??? why 2 on the other???

Not sure on this, but I would imagine it gives part 27 two surfaces to ride on reducing the chance for wobble or balance issues....

There is an o-ring that seals the tail cone into the rear of the stator.

At the front there is a spinning stub shaft and collar that must not allow water to get past. The only defense the internal stator bearings have against rust is those two front seals. Those two seals are more reliable than one seal in terms of keeping the water out.

thanks for the replies.....this was easier than i thought it would be to install the bearings......those 2 seals were what must have failed and that impeller side bearing was toast,,,,used the freezer and heat thing and they dropped in no problem.

Depends on how long you ran it out of the water. You shouldn't run it for more than a few seconds because there isn't any water to cool the jet pump bearings and the thru hull bearing. Keep in mind the thru hull is only a pair of bushings so metal on metal spinning at a few thousand RPMs is gonna generate heat. Hopefully you have greased the thru hull too. This will help lubricate those bushings and keep water out of the hull.....
