STX-R only filling up to 8 Gallons of gas.
For some reason when I go to fill up my Stx-r which has a 14 gallon tank, i'm only able to get 8 gallons in. I had siphoned out all the gas when I built the ski but when I went to the gas station, it only let me pump 8 gallons. I then ran the gas out till the gauge told me I needed gas and went back to the gas station. Again it only took 8 gallons. I did a search and read how on the 03 model, the tank doesn't vent well and you have to lift the trailer up with the ski on it to "burp" the tank. Has anyone else had this issue? Any resolution beside replacing the tank with an 04 model? If anyone has an 04 Stx-r tank let me know. I'd like the extra gas mileage as well.

Can you watch the tank while you fill it and see what's happening?

I'm going to try tomorrow before I go out. I know that the vent I have is a small diameter hose that comes up to a tubular aluminum hook like vent. My 05 ultra must have another way of venting as I don't ever have an issue with filling it up.

Also, that tube is for ventin "IN" only normally, not out, controlled by 5-psi inline check valve. It will vent out only when the internal fuel tank pressure exceeds 5 psi to prevent rupture of the tank.
So, that vent tube has NOTHING to do with your tank taking only 8 gallons.
It is the angle of your tank that limits to only 8-gallon - too low in front / too high in rear.

That's what the issue was. I filled up and it stopped at 8 gallons. I disconnected the trailer from the truck and tipped the trailer up. I then proceeded to add 5.5 more gallons. Very bad design.
