I gained 1+ mph by modifying my RIVA VXR Riva grate

As most of you know I'm running a turbo on my VXR so my gains may not hold true on a naturally aspirated VXR running 69-70 mph, but I wanted to share nonetheless.

Basically all I did was remove 3/4" off the front wing.
I haven't noticed any reduction in pump hookup because of this and I still have ZERO cavitation on the hole shot.

I also drilled two 5/16 pump pressure relief holes in the back ramp and I also tear dropped the holes where they ride on the water surface. If you do this you will need to fill the back cavity of the grate up with some epoxy. I filled in 3/4" deep with epoxy and then cut my pump seal kit down 3/4" to finish up the job.

The only reason I drilled these holes is because at 80-81 mph with the unmodified Riva grate I could feel the ski wanting to lift in the rear. Now with the holes the ski is settled and no signs of a stuff at all. My VXR is now running 83+ mph now that this mod is done... all this with only 8.9 psi boost and 100 degree air temps

Very fast for a light boat !! I would love to see a video of how much is hull is in the water. Is the steering scary at that speed ? My VXS at 71+ you had better pay attention or you will be in the trees.
What pump/impeller/nozzle are you running Jerry ?
Thanks for the new info !!

Chuck, there's quite a bit still in the water unfortunately. Handling is just fine, nothing quirky and I'm actually very comfortable at these speeds. I'm running the Macc Racing sponsons on it which are incredible.

Right now I'm running the stock/updated nozzle and stock steering nozzle. I plan to go with the Riva pro nozzle with the interchangeable rings and also install the FZR trim system on it. This will get the bow up some, but hopefully won't bring on any quirky handling at those speeds.

    I'm running the Riva 160mm wear ring and Riva/Skat 15/23 160mm impeller. I'm turning 8680 RPM's

Being this is a high compression motor the throttle response is very snappy so there is no noticeable lag.
