1995 xp800 water leaking in, looks like from under engine?
found my steering cable really loose at the rear of the hull after getting back on the trailer. could water wick down the cable housing and since the cable is the lowest point under the engine, run off from there? looks like a pain with the vts in the way! it would fill up to bottom of battery in about ten minutes. filled witth water when washing and flushing no leaks from hull.

it is possible to wick down the steering cable... There is a nut and a seal on the cable - accessible from the rear by the pump..

Yeah I read these are a PITA to work with. Also hear the plastic nut breaks from being tightened down too much. The manual doesn't talk about this part or procedure at all. At least I have a couple weeks to get it fixed to be back on the water since buying it last week. This thing hauls ass!

Turned out there was no washer for the cable nut to tighten to. It was trying to tighten to the fiberglass. I installed a stainless washer and its all good. No more leaky!
