    Unhappy 96 GTX,800, ran low on oil, kid had no idea, seized.. help needed

    it ran great, until it seized, question is do i need to rebuilt top end only or bottom too.. and also can the top end be done with engine in ski.. thanks any comment is appreciated..

    usually you can get away with new pistons and a bore.. Depending on the hours you may want to consider doing the bottom end too.. When you freshen up a top end the weak bottom end will let go..

    89 hrs on it total. i took off the head, broke 2 bolts. found pcs of piston in one of the cyl. i'll take the cly's off late on today to see what else i can find.

    Sounds like a complete rebuild is needed to be safe.
    You don't want to complete the top end and have the lower end break.
    I would also be running premix fuel so no worries about not enough oil in the future.

    took the cyls, off and they were not even scratched, but the bottom end is locked, started to take the engine out to tear it up, or find a donor....

    Bottom end let go.. 275 for a rebuilt crank or 845 for a rebuit engine from SBT

    took the engine out to find 2 cracks on the block top and bottom, not good, i don't think they will even take it as core! will call tomorrow. i'll also see if anybody has a donor motor with low hours..
