1300R PV or Not?
What's the difference between the PV and Non PV motor (besides the obvious that one has no Valves). I'm assuming Yamaha used them in the 1300R, but why? Was it when they went to EFI?

Hello snowrunner, Yamaha came out with the power valves on the 99 XLL 1200 motor, The idea behind the power valves is when the valves are closed you have better bottom end and hole shot and when you are at higher rpm's they open and you get better top end. Most people now look for power valves cylinders to get ported they seem to work better than the non power valve cylinders like the 05 and newer 1300 ski's have.

Was just curious as to why Yamaha went away from them. I know the workings of the valve, but can't understand why (except for cost) they'd move away from them when just about every performance 2 stroke out there has valves. Didn't know if they thought they found some magical new method.

Probably had too many warranty claims from valves dropping into cylinders. They changed the valves a few times but instead of coming out with a quality bullet proof design they eliminated them.

They sell more (different) parts this way too.
