Engine accelerates underway but the jet drive stopes turning

I was out today and the up to speed and then the engine RPM's increased but the impeller stopped turning and the ski came to a stop. Of course I stopped the engine tried it again got up to sped and the same thing happened.
Does anyone know what may cause this?

Sounds like you have stripped your drive shaft/impeller splines.

I agree I had this happen on a older gtx that we towed wakeboards with. It makes a grinding noise when it slips. Hopefully it just messed up the driveshaft. I had to replace the the pto and the shaft. What ski do you have?
