    engine compartment full of water

    I have a 1988 waverunner that I just bought and it gets water in the engine compartment and I dont know how it was supposed to get out. can anyone help?

    They have a siphon bilge that should bail water out. How much water are we talking about? If its a little residual...that's normal. More than that...check for leaking hoses or hull. Not sure about 88's, but I imagine there not much different than later ones. Check to see if the bilge was removed, or check valve damaged. You can add an electric bilge pretty easy also.

    what makes the syphon bilge work? Is it electric or mechanical?

    Mechanical, There should be a tube hooked up onto the pump nozzle that creates a vaccum as water passes through the pump.

    And check that the hose is tight. Mine came off and the compartment started filling with water. didn't really realize until it was 1/2 full. Luckily got it to shore, bailed the the water out and reattached the tube.
