    Handlebar mods

Just wondering if anyone has done any kind of handlebar mod to allow the use of aftermarket bars without replacing the whole steering system. I have a 1995 slt 750

It's going to be tough as the bars are welded on to the stem on your machine. I did it like this, but it's a pretty extreme way to go for a steering mod.

That is exactly what I was thinking of doing! You just cut the old bars right? Where did you get the riser clamps? Thanks.

Yes, I cut the old bars, but it's more involved than that. The bend of the original bars will not allow the risers to bolt on. (not enough straight before the bends) You need to cut the old bars and then weld one of these on....

    http://www.roxspeedfx.com/cgi-bin/ca...?parts_id=9849 ,

which is a snap because the bars are stainless and the adaptor is a form of steel as well. No aluminum here.....
The piece that is left on and the gusset provide a beautiful area to lay the adapter on and a nice welding joint area.

Then I beadblasted it and mixed up a small amount of bondo and ran a bead as if it were silicone. Smoothed it out with the fingertip trick, etch primer and a rattlecan......good to go!!!

Then you can pick any riser you want from the same sight that is 7/8. I always get the 7/8 X 1 and 1/8 because I like the fatty bars. If you need more direction just let me know.

Thanks so much for the info and pics!

I was afraid there would be some cutting/welding. Maybe I will weld a stainless plate which I can then mount handlebar clamps to and avoid having to use risers.
