    97 pro 785 difficult start/run away

I have a 97 SLX Pro 785 that is hard to start in the water. I'll have to crank it for 10 sec or more for it to fire. Its not modified. Frequently when its warm, i'll have to hold the throttle half way while cranking to get it to start. It idles ok after that.

Out of the water with the hose hooked up i just touch the starter and it fires right up... it then revs away to 5500+ rpm.

Looking for some help/suggestions on this...

    Thanks

    Brent

Typically it is best to start the motor for a few seconds at the launch before dropping it in. Once in the water, then engine is under a much greater load, reducing the craninkg RPM and thus takes much longer to start. Could also be carb settings or an air leak in the lines.

Had the same issue , might want to check your pop off pressure , higher pressure will make easier to start

Pull the lanyard the first run away. Then dont prime it and try again.it will rise not so high the next start and begin to calm down. A high idle is expected because of no resistance on the prop. Set idle after warmed up on the water and set while the ski is in the water.
