    Just bought this GP1200R

Just won this on ebay. Its a 2000 GP1200R. Motor is out of the ski. Not sure what exactly happened to it because it was sold through a charity that takes cars and boats as donations. Plans are to rebuild it and maybe add some upgrades. What do you guys think?

Yea it was me. I ended up paying $603 plus a $249 processing and documentation fee. The ski was sold through boat angel, which is a charity organization. So for about $854
plus the 240 mile drive to get it I have a GP1200R. They seem to be going for around $4000 in my area so even if I bought a rebuilt engine I am ahead of the game. I own a race car shop so the mechanical work is not an issue for me. According to the previous owner, the ski was down on power so he brought it to the dealer for a tune up. Afterwards they left one of the water lines loose and it flooded the engine compartment. He said it wasn't running right after so he decided to pull the motor and redo everything, but soon after had a kid and lost interest in the project. He said it last ran in 2007 and was stored in his father's barn since. I'm going to run power to the starter and try to get some compression numbers before I decide to tear the motor down or not.

Update: Looked over some of the stuff today. There is some minor fiberglass work on the bottom of the hull. Its the discoloration spot seen in the pics. Previous owner said when he went to buy it the seller banged it on the trailer. I am going to sand it down and respray the area white. All the accessories and parts seem to be there. The motor turns over freely by hand with the plugs out. Looking at the exhaust, it seems there is a cat eliminator plate installed. Oil pump is still there. That will be going as I rather premix to be safe.

Tried to get the starter to turn over to get some compression numbers but its dead. Probably rotted from when the hull flooded and sat. I even tried pulling a socket on a power drill to turn the motor by the crank but the compression is just too high for it to spin. I guess thats a good sign. I'm going to run it by the alternator shop on monday and see what they can do with it.

Good deal. But for some reason that "AN ADDITIONAL $249.00 (document handling fee) is added to the final bid price." Just screams greedy to me. I hate charities. lol
