Childrens Fishing Clinic
Today I attended the 17th Annual Children's Fishing Clinic at the James River Fishing Pier in Newport News Va.
This was a great event with over 300 kids, many volunteers and demonstrations from Navy divers and Virginia Marine Resource commission. There were lots of smiling faces so of course I had to take pictures.
Here are the details and pictures from today.
17th ANNUAL CHILDRENíS FISHING CLINIC-JULY 21st
No matter how the fishing goes, there will be plenty of smiles as the CCA and the Newport News Rotary Club host the 17th Annual Children's Fishing Clinic on the James River Fishing Pier in Newport News on Saturday July 21st.
Volunteers are needed to help the over 300 at-risk and disadvantaged children that have been invited for a day of education and fishing instruction, under the guidance of veteran volunteer anglers. Approximately 18 chaperoned groups will be taken through a series of educational booths before they are cleared to fish. The children arrive on the pier starting at 8:00am and conclude fishing by Noon.
Each child is given a T-shirt, hat, a rod/reel, tackle, lunch, as well as instruction by experienced anglers. CCA partners with the Newport News Rotary Club in sponsoring the event with the assistance of the Newport News Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism and a host of other volunteers from fishing clubs to shipyard workers. Primary financial sponsors include VMRC Saltwater Recreational License Fund and other corporate donors. CCA members Rob and Mary Cowling founded the event, and have continued to provide leadership .
