    Timing Light

I'm trying to troubleshoot a no spark situation. In the service manual it says I can check the Hall Effect sensors using a "static timing light tool". Is this just a regular timing light?
    Thanks

    See my signature links.

You can use a 9 volt battery and ohm meter. Follow the voltage polarity carefully when testing the Hall Effect sensors.

Thanks K447. I was hoping to use a different method. As I understand that method, you have to turn the flywheel slowly ie by hand, not using the starter. I don't have the flywheel exposed.
I'm starting to think the battery is shot. It's been on the charger almost 24 hours and it still isn't charged. I'll probably pick up a new battery this afternoon.

With the spark plugs removed, and also the PTO drive shaft cover removed, you can rotate the engine by turning the PTO coupler at the rear of the engine.

If you have the small diameter solid coupler there are flats to apply a wrench.

If you have the large diameter rubber bonded coupler then you should be able to turn it by hand with gentle grunting. Or a rubber strap wrench.

    "gentle grunting", I like that.
I must have lost my mind; I didn't even think about turning it from that end. Thanks.
