    1998 gp1200 speedo limiter at 50?

I just purchased a 98 gp1200 and the previous owner said that the speedo doesn't go over 50, but can tell that it is pulling way past 50. I have noticed that it has a pro tec nozzle and aftermarket intake grate, not sure if it has any other mods or not. I am new to todays pwc's, last time I was on one was a stand up 440 more than 20 years ago. Is it limited to show speed over 50? I have seen many videos of well over 50.
    Thanks

Nope its not limited to 50mph. None of these ever really read accurately but if you want to work better, you may need to replace the sensor. they wear out and don't spin as nicely as they should. other possibilities to check out are:
Clear weeds and debris from the speed sensor wheel area.
Also certain mods (ie ride plates and ride plate angles) can change how water flows past the sensor and affect its reading.

Mine reads 1 or 2 mphs and sometimes as high as 10 mphs so mine is really shot. But I just ignore it like most others do around here.

Will run gps to see what it will do once I get down to the beach. Will check out the sensor when I get back, figured I would ask incase there was something. Thanks

pay special attention to the small stuff wrapped up around the pin the wheel spins on. Use a flash light or something to light up the area and a pick or pocket screwdriver to clean out the stuff (if there is any).

I use tweezers to get the little thin weed pieces off of the pin that the paddle rides on. A funny thing I have not figured out yet: My GPR never gets slow or messed up by weeds there, but my XLT does about every week or so, both ridden in the same water. I do not know what the difference is between them. I don't even bother any more, just ride and go.
