11 VXR - loose sounding prop(?) when washing out
Brought my VXR from my house to the boat ramp to trailer - ran great
Trailered it home to wash it out in the driveway. Started it and it almost sounds like something is loose - in a way it sounds like metal on metal especially when I rev'd it up to blow the excess water out of the exhaust.
Only thing I can think of was I had it in reverse at one point, accidentally hit the gas and rev'd it to 4.5K-ish (I think..may not have been that high). But then I did a few runs up and down the local river and idled to the boat ramp no problem.
Maybe I'm just paranoid...

First step is getting a thorough look inside the pump with a good flashlight (from the back of the Ski and from under the Ski). You could have something stuck in there which would change the "pitch" of the sound coming from the pump area.
You can also see the Pump Liner while inpecting the Pump area. If you don't see any major scratches on the Pump liner than I bet you are fine

It's probably your impeller rubbing against your wear ring.If it bothers you, Try turning the idle up a bit.

I have 45hrs on the ski and this is the first time I have heard the noise come from the impeller area. I've def heard it on my old FX when washing it out.
Guess I have the "It's new! I hope this shit isn't serious" syndrome...

I dont think it will cause an issue. I have a replaceable plastic wear ring, and it's been happening to me since I've had my ski. It could mean too much play in the shaft? Worn bearing? I would do a once over on the pump area, just make sure everything is tight first. Maybe we can get an expert opinion on this?

Thanks for the input guys. I've washed it out numerous times but this was the first time it seemed more "noticeable", and like I said, my 06 FX made this noise but I never had a problem. Even my room mate (who was inside the house at the time) made a comment about it when I walked inside.
I wont worry for now since it ran fine - I'll check it out tonight and let you know if I find anything

My VXR sounds exactly the same way when it's running out of the water. I always start it when I get out of the water to blow out what water is left.
