    Unhappy 2004 msx140 running issue

    new here and have a 2004 msx140 that has an issue I've never herd of before. I read through alot of the posts here and havent seen this issue so here it goes. The craft idles great if maybee a little high. when you give it throttle it surges high then low then back to high. any ideas?

    Also a off question why is the most seen sugestion on here to change the throttle position sensor? is it a really prone to failure part?

    Thanks for the reply. I'll check both issues and post my results. I have a tpi on order.

    well wile waiting for the tpi to come in we kept looking at the ski. what we found was the reverse arm was broken. did a quick repair and it ran great. my guess is the ski thought it was in reverse and was hitting a limiter of some sort. I'll definatly keep the tpi since the concensus is they fail alot. Thanks for the help.

    Did the MFI display say Reverse before the repair?

    That would have been a helpful clue!

    I didn't think the MSX had a reverse indicator of any sort

    Oops, was thinking of a Virage!

    Hmm, need to add that to the Knowlege Base;

    How to tell when the Reverse mode is active on an MSX if the Reverse switch is broken?
