    2001 Polaris Genesis I - "Gift"

    I was "given" as a gift a non-running 01 Polaris Genesis I. This Jest ski hasn't run or been started in over a year. I was told that this Jet ski has a new (re-man) SBT engine installed with less than 5 hours. The new engine would die when a load was put on it. The previous owner got tired of throwing money into it and decided to buy a new Kawasaki Ultra 260x. This Genesis is in great structural and cosmetic condition.

    I quickly jumped in feet first and started doing repairs. So far this is what I've done:

    1) Installing a fuel pump with less than 10 hours.
    2) Replaced the fuel lines
    3) Drained the old fuel and cleaned the fuel tank.
    4) Changed the plugs
    5) New battery
    6) Waiting on a new LR-503 (voltage regulator). The old VR allows the bilge to continuously run when battery wire is connected and power is off.

    Is there anything else I can do/replace that will make this boat run?

    My '00 SLH had the same voltage regulator issue when I bought it. Actually it failed during the test-ride of the ski and I knew nothing about skis at that time so it was a good price negotiating technique...

    1.) Have you checked compression? If so, what are the results?

    2.) Do you know if you have spark?

    3.) Are you getting fuel to the cylinders?

    4.) Does the new battery have a good charge? What is the voltage when cranking? What is the voltage with the ski off/not cranking?

    Could be a stator or computer issue. I was hoping someone with experence with the FI skis would chime in.

    Replace the TPS. Even if the existing TPS turns out to be good, you always want to have a spare TPS on hand.

    A failed TPS can cause all sorts of strange symptoms, including what you describe.
