    Motor cover

I have a 2012 fzs and a 2012 vxr. After my ocean rides I take the top plastic motor cover off to be able to clean the motor area better. Just undo the two top screws. Salt gets under there. I see the connections and all. I clean it, spray it with silicone and then put the cover back on. Would I be able to just leave this decorative cover off all the time or is this a bad idea? Don't want to damage anything or have to much water get to a certain area that this may protect. Thanks Tony

I took mine off for that exact reason. You should also take the rubber curtains off the back around the pump so you can rinse that area thoroughly as well. They are just there as sound baffles.

The motor cover makes a nice parts tray.
Also you can remove the 4 supports for the motor cover too. They will just be in the way.
Along with removing the rubber skirt in the pump cavity i would trim the exhaust outlet round thingy that looks like a exhaust restriction.

Are you referring to the backside where the gay spray runs behind it? Right above the nozzle?

+1 on removing the supports. I had one on the right hand side snap off.
