    4 stroke rebuild pricing

Was down at a jetski shop yesterday, they had a supercharged Seadoo there that had thrown a rod out the block, nearly $10,000 to repair by the time they rebuild motor, put a kit through supercharger, check/service intercooler etc. If you bought a 2nd hand ski for $10-12,000 and that happened, hardly worth fixing!!!
Was thinking $12k for the 220hp 1100cc Power Addiction billet motor (or even the 900cc for $5800) for the Hurricane was a bit steep, but when you look $5-10k rebuilds on the 4 strokes, it isnt so bad?? Could also get a few $$ back for the old 700cc donk in the hurri. Havnt got the $$ to spend at moment, but then thinking about what 220hp in a hurri would be like Just thinking (dreaming?) aloud.

I have a modified Hurricane here that came with a Polaris red 1200 motor. Motor is currently out of the Hurricane for use elsewhere, but it does fit in there!

Got any pics? How did it affect handling? Just thinking long term. For moment just going with ride plate mod n 6 vein pump. And fitting up protec or factory pipe, N a bit a carb/compression/Porting tweaking. But sort of thinking for what it costs just to rebuild a std modern 4st, can go to town on the hurri.

I think the original project thread and subsequent For Sale thread are still on Greenhulk.

Tim Atkinson did the build and I ended up buying it from him. In my hands it has not seen water.

I have an extended ride plate in the works for that Hurricane and I recently stole the 1200 motor out of it to get another hull operational.

Eventually the 1200 Hurricane will be back together and ridden

Talking to a guy last night with a yammie with a blown motor, $2800 for crank/rods/bearings/pistons, $2800 for a block (threw rod out), $4500 for cyl head, $3000 supercharger. $13,000 for parts, add in oil/plugs etc, labour and it's a $15k job. I didn't believe him so I just went on riva yamahas website. And yam Australia want $10k just for a head!

Rebuild cost depends on how you go about it. That $13K Yamaha parts, $15K total engine rebuild sounds like almost list pricing, and essentially is an entire new motor.

For contrast, SBT () sells an exchange based Yamaha FXHO rebuilt engine for $2,300
    http://www.shopsbt.com/yamaha-jet-sk...rd/40-411.html

SBT 4-Tec rebuild pricing is similar.

A realistic rebuild cost for a non-destroyed 4-stroke engine is somewhere in between those two extremes.

The 2-strikes are generally less expensive to rebuild. The flip side is that we may need to rebuild a 2-stroke engine several times to reach the same number of total operating hours as a 4-stroke can provide before the first rebuild is needed.
