    2002 polaris freedom start issue

2002 freedom will not start. Not getting fuel and will turnover with lanyard in or out. Fuel gauge works with bildge unplugged or plugged in and button pushed. What will cause pwc not to get fuel?

The fuel system is mechanical and driven by air pressure pulses from the crankcase. The fuel pump is part of the carburetor.

If you remove the flame arrestor and prime the engine with a spoonful of fuel does it start?

I will try that. I should have mentioned I just got pwc which was sitting for two years. Unit and in perfect shape and was running before it was put up.

If it has been sitting for two years then you should consider doing the carburetor rebuild right away. Remove the old fuel from the tank, clean it out and go through the rest of the fuel system.

See my signature links for lots of related info on what to look for and maintain.

Carb is clean all gas removed, new gas put in etc.. Unit will run with gas put directly into carb, then die when it runs out. Still cannot get gas to flow through lines. Checked all hoses outside of tank, and voaltge to plug on tank.

Recheck which fuel lines go to which nipples on the fuel tank.

There is only one tank fitting which will actually supply fuel to the carbs, via the fuel filter. The correct fitting is the one that is NOT marked Ret or Vent. The correct fitting may be marked Res or Main.

checked and replaced all lines and filter. Should I try and manually prime lines prior to starting? Started to get gas in water seperator then battery went dead. Seems like it is taking a long time to prime.

You can prefill the fuel/water separator.

You can also prime the engine directly with a squirt of fuel down the carb throats.

If the fuel pump and everything else is good the fuel pump should quickly get fuel to the engine. Maybe two or three engine starts with direct fuel priming and the pump should be flowing fuel into the carbs.

I know this sounds stupid.... but have you turned the fuel switch on?

By the way, is the a reserve tank in the freedom? If so how do you switch on?
