Help and Advice on Two different Machines 02 Genesis and 01 Virage

In the last 2 weeks, both our machines exhibited issues

1st machine is 02 Genesis carb'ed. It was running like crap at anything past 1/4 throttle. Idled fine and started off fine and then just petered out. We brought both machines into a local guy and on this machine is diagnosing a bad reverse override safety switch. Does that sound reasonable. Any fix beside replacing it?

2nd Machine 01 Virage FI. Running fine up in till we go out one day and it will crank but it has no gauges and will not fire over. The diagnosis on this machine is a new computer board at the tune of 1500.00. Does that seem reasonable? And are the boards 1300+?

Any other options on either machine before I give them them go ahead?

Well, the Reverse system does engage an RPM limiter and that will limit engine power and RPM. The display should be saying Reverse with blinking red light so it easy to diagnose if the reverse sense switch is stuck in reverse mode.

The Ficht fuel injection system is quite different from the carburetor engine.

There is a company that repairs these EMM modules. See my signature links for more info on DFI Technologies.

I can tell you the display is not saying Reverse. Is there a way to disable the RPM limiter?

On the 02 Genesis carb'ed is the unit that apparently has the RPM limiter that is working in Forward even thou reverse is not showing up in the display except when you actually have it in reverse.

The 01 Virage is the unit won't start has supposedly a bad EMM board.

Has this machine ever worked properly for you?

If the reverse position sensing switch was faulty then the MFI display would show the Reverse message and flashing red lamp.

Since the display is NOT showing the Reverse message then the reverse sense switch cannot be the problem cause. Or someone has previously been messing with the wiring.

Exactly what RPM is the Genesis engine reaching in the water? Can it rev higher (to redline) when out of the water?

Yes the machine was working fine until one day and then it wasnt.

We tried new plugs, still bad, so that was the point we brought it to this small shop. They just called and said instead of replaceing the rev limiter sensenseing swicth, we can just disconnect it electrically.

I told them to please do that.
