Help for Virage, lose performance and stalls

    Dear Friends,

Virage 2004 Keihin cdk2 carp red domestic engine 87 hours 2 cylinder

I have rebuild the carb with non aftermarket parts inculdes acc pump,
    Also, changed spark plugs.

The problem is; works well in idle also at high speed, but after 5 minutes engine begins to stall and missfire,
After one hour waiting it makes well and 5 minutes later begins the same mistake,

I have cheked engine heat, but everything seems fine..

I realy wonder what can cause this??

I wish I wont have problem with cdi nor reeds!! ,becouse it will be realy hard to find parts in my country.

I have read many events like this in this forum but I couldnt see any solved problem

    Best Regards

When the trouble happens, stop the engine. Remove the gas cap to release air pressure. Then reinstall fuel cap and test. Does the problem go away?

    Dear Keith,
Thank you for your reply, I will try it as soon as possible

    Also I have read from other board; rusty ground cable cap screw can cause this!! Do you reccomend to change it with a stenless screw;
I have noticed the orginal screw is iron one.

There should be no steel or iron bolts or nuts anywhere.

From the factory everything is stainless steel.

Every connection in the electrical system must be clean with solid metal to metal contact. A thin coating of dielectric grease is used to keep the connections protected against corrosion.

    Dear Keith,

I removed the rusty ground screw, and cleaned well and install back
Checked spark plug cables and noticed that one of the bolts(I dont know the name,at the top of the sparkplug) has loosen ,,tighten back
    Changed sparkplugs again,
Noticed that 2 corrasion (but little) cables in CDİ which is black and white cables belongs to sparkplugs and cleaned them.
Then it has done, no error now.

But I dont like the ground screw its nearly get stripped Can I else screw it an other part of casting on the block or engine mount plate ??

Is your Virage now running properly?

You certainly can move the ground to another part of the engine. One good location that is hard to get to is the starter motor. Either of the mounting bolts for the starter motor is a good place for the engine ground. This provides an excellent ground for the starter motor.

Clean the bolt and bolt hole threads for the starter motor and clean any paint off the starter casing near the bolt. Do NOT use thread locker compound on the starter motor bolts. No Loctite.

Per the Polaris service manual, use Nyogel dielectric grease on the bolt threads for the start motor bolts.

Another location you might connect the battery ground is to one of the bolts that holds the intake manifold to the engine. Make sure the bolt is clean metal and do not over tighten the bolt.

    Yes Keith,
I enjoyed too much again with no problem,
The only thing I try to start 4 times; 1st with choke then 3 times with normal idle, then it gets
After start, she never gets acceleration at 1 minute , I have to give and bring throttle many times to get the first accelarate; then everything is fine

Just for this reason I rebuild the carb with non aftermarket parts includes fuel acceleration pump
The only reason for me!! I have to put a check valve to pipe line which feeds the carb ??
I will be happy if you have any reccomendation for it

I do not understand what check valve you are talking about.

The only check valves I know about are in the vent hoses from the fuel tank and the oil tank.

A technician advice me, when he saw the problem. He told me; the fuel is going back to tank, so the carb needs to take time full again
Thats just an idea, to put a check valve not send back fuel to tank??
    I thought it may help!!

By the way our carb needle factory setting is 1+3/4 ?? is it true?
