SL1050 trial run!
I ran the 1050 tonight with new plugs and having the same issue's. bogs and dies at idle and only way to get it on plan is choke it and hold throttle wide open and pull choke back when she fires.. i think the pop off is off on the carbs but i am going to pull them off tomorrow and see if they are gummed up. but if i dont find anything i will assume pop off is to blame.. i will have to get a pop off tester..
my question is i have a set of carbs off the sltx sitting in my basement that i know are good but the are 38s with accelerator pumps. can i throw them on with out any issues? does anyone have a link where this is already discussed? just want to do this to have it on the water for the weekend till i can rebuild the carbs..

You are a professional now! Carburetor rebuilds should take you what, an hour total?

Are the 38's for sure off a '96-'97 SLTX ? If so they should be fine. All the 96-97 1050's used the same 009 cylinders-so jetting shouldn't change much if any.
The accel pump will get rid of the bog.Alot of those '97 SL1050 had a bog, but not all of them. On my 97,I switched to 40's w/accel pump and never looked back or tried to figure out the actaual problem .
Pay very close attention to pop-off and needle "arm' height.
PS; sports autority sold a cheap tire pump with guage, good enough for a shade tree mechanic.....like me.

Sea trial number 2
I put the 38s on and she runs good. So much power. And extremely loud with seat and flame arrestor off!
