Hull Damage (keel) . Info needed
I have the following problem :
These pics are the of the keel of my gp1300r . I knew it was old and beat up after countless times I`ve beached it in speed. (coming up onto the beach at some speed)
I figured I`d have something to gain from truing the hull so I took everything apart and removed the engine to be able to process the hull .
After laying it on it`s side I found the hole you can see in the picture.
I find it odd that the hole is too regular. It`s edges are straight and the endings are square.
I`d like to know if I have to seal it back up or leave it like this.
Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

That's not normal and not good! Your saturating your hull with water and making it heavier

Mine was damaged a from the previous owner hitting the trailer when trying to drive up it. He laid some fiberglass and epoxy over it, making for an ugly repair. I sanded it down and applied some marine tex. I still have to do final sanding and repaint the area but you can see it in my gp1200 thread in the project section.

fiberglass if not pertected looses its strength you want to fix it , Bevel the hole out with a dremmel, dont get crazy, pack the hole with alittle bit of Bondoglass let dry, use alittle loose ball of fiberglass mat soak it in resin, place it in the hole add aliitle bit more resin over it so you can sand it down flush, or if your going to paint the bottom just bondo glass over the hole sand it and paint, I use Tamco Duriflint 2 for the bottom of all my restored boats its better then Dupont Imron at a fraction of the cost

You want to use a dedicated smc repair compound not fiberglass
