aftermarket gasket kits? 951 engine rebuild questions

I am about to rebuild the engine in my 2000 rx 951 carb and was wondering if i should use a oem, aftermarket, or sbt complete gasket kit? The engine is a sbt reman which the main crank bearings failed within 40hrs. So im going to put a oem crank in it. The bearings on the counter balancer are not rough at all so im going to reuse them i think. I read somewheres about oil for the counter balancer as well? Is there any tips or tricks i should know before tackling this job myself? I am going to get myself a shop manual too. Also how do you tighten the bolt for the exhaust manifold thats tucked up under and covered by the carbs??? i had to raise the cylinder on the studs to get it off!! lol

We just rebuilt a 951 this spring using aftermarket gaskets and had no problems. I know that my marine mechanic couldn't stress enough to prime the oil pump before putting it all back together so it doesn't run oil less on start up, the oil lines are pretty small on those things to begin with. We welded and made up a tool to fit the allen head bolt on the exhaust.

Right on, i have to read up on how to prime the oil pump. But can i just premix the first tank and make sure the oil level goes down in the tank? It seems like to work on stuff yourself there is always special tools you need to buy to use once. Im gonna try to make one too like you say.

better to get oem gasket kits because you can choose the thickness of base gaskets.
