    1996 xp taking water.

I got an 1996 xp785. I noticed that during riding it begins to become heavy and the handeling get bad. When I reach the beach I noticed that the hull is full of water almost to half the engine. I checked all the water and exhaust hoses and they checked alright. I also checked the water regulator on the waterbox and no problem there either. Then I checked the the screws at the sponsons and the intake grate and no leaks there either. I placed the craft again in the water and see no water comming in the hull at the pump area. There are no cracks in the hull, so I'm really wondering where the water comes in.

Hook a hose up to it and start the motor on the trailer, then turn the water on. Water may be leaking from the exhaust pipe or where the exhaust bolts to the motor. If that's where it's leaking and you'll only be able to notice if the engine ir running.

Or just ride it around in calm water with the seat off and look for leaks.

Thats what I already did. Thats how I checked if the hoses, water regulator or exhaust hoses etc where leaking.

I always rinse my beloved xp with fresh water after each and every ride. I let it air dry for at least a day and after that I spray it with silicone spray. It's a '96 but still looks in very good shape.

I had a 96 that had a water problem. So far the hints are right on. The other area to look is the venturi jets and make sure the two "straws" (my terminology not technical) are in there. I lost mine for whatever reason and water helped itself in. Exhaust manifold gasket was another place to look. VTS "shaft" at the back is another. Check the drain plug and make sure you didn't rip it out.....keep us posted. This is always fun stuff to track down.
