Making your own gaskets- using cork-rubber gasket material

    Hey Everyone,

I am wondering if anyone has ever made their own gaskets for their Polaris.

I have a 2002 Polaris Virage TXI that blew the cylinder base gasket for the third cylinder. Would like to have it up and running ASAP and dont want to wait 10 days for the gasket to come from a parts dealer.

Will the cork-rubber work for this gasket, or is there a better material to use?

Thanks in advance for your help

Have you called the other parts suppliers to see if you can get he gaskets quicker?

There is a partial list of Parts Sources in my signature links.

    K447,

I tried a few of them, and they are not open today, seems many companies are closed on mondays in this industry. Each one quotes 7-10 days, however I have a UPS number that will allow for overnight shipping and just have it charged to me. I may just wait until tomorrow to speak with these companies in person. The closest one to me is about 2.5 hours, but is a little far to drive for some gaskets IMO

    Blue Fish,

I will definitely look into what you suggested. Thanks!! Have you used it particularly for this type of application as this gasket?

I have used them on Fuji motors, but only as intake gaskets, and water rail gaskets, never as a base gasket.

Base gaskets need to be a specific thickness or you could make other things go out of whack with the motor.

Yep, measure the thickness of the current base gasket. Then see if you can get the same thickness of KARROPACK material. That's the stuff i like best for gaskets now.
