1st post starts with bad news

I have been riding stand ups for a couple years and decided to pick up sit down to mix it up a bit. I picked up a 2007 gp1300r with 54 hours on it. Long story short, the crank case has a crack in it from the #3 rod. What would you guys recommend, aside from doing an sho fzr swap within financial reason? I haven't torn the engine apart but I know I this motor is done for. I live in Washington state so I have a nice long winter ahead of me. Ideally I would like to find npv donor motor that needs a rebuild or even a running short/long block. I don't want to mess around with sbt motors, they seem to be hit and miss. If anybody knows of a npv engine with good cases please let me know.

As an intro I also have a mostly stock 2000 sj that has ride plate, intake grate, odi grips, stitched mat, and handle pole spring. I was going to build a 771 motor and do some serious modding on it this winter but that may have to wait depending on what the gpr motor is going to set me back.

If the crack is on the bottom you may be able to weld it up. i have had them welded up were they have broke the side were the mating surfaces are at but its a lot of work. if the cases are salvageable and you can do a crank and renick the cylinder and new piston it would be a lot better than a SBT motor.

Mudslanger - I've thought about welding it up, there isn't a hole, just a crack, but I know every time I look at the engine I will know there's an ugly weld down there, it's a Mental thing if that makes any sense.

I am almost considering biting the bullet and buying a new oem crankcase, oem crank, then renicking the cyl and replacing the piston. Its not much more than buying a "premium rebuild" and I will have a "pretty" engine without welds. It will also allow me to do a few other mods with the motor apart. It's crazy that my mental perception will drive me to drop that kind of coin. Then again when I was building cars I learned its cheaper in the long run to do it right the first time.

R33pwrd - I doubt this is your ski, it is bone stock (now with a custom crank case), but I live in eastern wa and picked it up in eastern wa. I imagine you had your ski on lake sammamish and if that's the case this definitely isn't it, but if you stored your ski in central wa, it could potentially be yours.

Here are a couple pics of the crack in the case:

Not my old ski.... Parts should be easy to find. Not sure where you are but good 2 stroke mechanics are all over the place.

If you decide to sell it like is let me know I have a friend looking for a 1300.
