Ocean riding mpg FXSHO
On a recent trip from NJ to OCMD this past weekend, I averaged 5.2 mpg over the course of the weekend. This includes 20 miles of 6-8 ft seas, 25 miles of bay, and 95 miles of open ocean there, the same on the way back minus the 6-8 ft size. That's at a 30-32 mph average there (minus the 20 miles of insane waves), and about 35-40 on the way home (55-60 on the bay areas, with some WOT runs). All of this being packed for a 3 day trip (requisite ropes, tools, clothes, etc). What kind of mileage does an FXSHO get under something of a similar circumstance (or as close as you can get)? I'm curious. We only had 3 SeaDoos and a Honda in the group.

Well, we've made several trips to Catalina Island from Dana Point, which is about 28 miles each way in open ocean, averaging around 35MPH. With my wife riding the FXSHO at an average of about 35MPH, she uses about 10 gallons (5.6 MPG) for the round trip, and that's packed for one person for 3 days. I always need to put a few gallons in my FZR at the island because I ride more aggressive and go back and forth instead of a straight line there.
I've also raced from Long Beach to the same place, which I think is about the same distance, mostly WOT or close to it but going in a straight line and made the round trip with about 4 gallons to spare in my FZR.

On my FZR a few weeks ago I did 80 miles in 2 foot seas averaging 30-35 mph. I had 3 gallons of fuel left.

Ok, so it's extremely comparable to what I was getting. Interesting. Thanks everyone, and feel free to keep the feedback coming!
