Any trick to removing stock water box on VXR/VXS?

We're trying to install the Riva water box on the kiddo's ski and can't seem to get the stock waterbox out. It will only back up towards the rear of the hull so far before it stops and that is not far enough to get the water box passed the exhaust pipe that is inside of it. The Riva instructions just say "Removed water box and discard" Any trick or angle to this?

Try loosening #19 so you can slide #18 toward the manifold to buy a couple of inches more travel.

Worse case you might have to pull #17 off w/ the box

Mine came out easy, but you need to rotate it. It may take a few minutes, but it will come out without loosening anything else. You will like that waterbox...big difference in sound!!

I've got 19 and 20 loose and 18 isn't budging. I can't back the waterbox far enough back in the hull to get past 18.

If #17 will twist freely then everything should be loose enough to get the box out by sliding back, while rotating and lifting up to free the box flange from #17.

So simultaneously slide back while rotating box outlet toward center of hull and lifting on rear of box to angle it up and out. #18 doesn't extend too far into the box, so there's wiggle-room there w/ the box angled while sliding back. If #17 is sticking, you might try a little heat or very briefly start the engine to soften the rubber.

I just helped change out for Riva box on a VXS last weekend.
It took some jockying of the box, but we had it out in about 15 minutes. We put in a through-hull at the same time, so everything downstream from the box was already out - which might have helped.

No matter which way I turn it, I run into the hull before I run out of pipe inside the water box. In the picture the waterbox is against the hull and there are still a couple of inches of #18 inside of it.

Clamp 19/20 are loose. Rubber boot 17 is spinning freely. When I try to move 18, the entire ski moves. It feels like it is bolted into the block. Is it?
