Thinking about a '96 SL900..opinions on this ski?

Hi guys, I'm looking at possibly getting a bit faster ski (vs. my 2 sl650's), and found a pretty decent deal on a '96. Just have a few questions on these, wondering if the '96 would have the Fuji engine or the red domestic. If it's the domestic engine, are these decent motors and are parts as easy to find as for the Fuji motors? Also how much faster can I expect the sl900 to be compared to my 650's....I'm assuming at least 55mph for the sl900 but I'm sure it will be quite a difference compared to what I'm used to. The one I'm looking at comes with a newer single trailer all for $900 which if the compression tests and piston viewings come out decent seems like a steal to me. Any opinions would be appreciated!

    Sounds like a great deal!

THey are much faster. My 97 SL900 does 66 (MFD) on smooth water and 165 lbs. Most days I can do 60 (mfd, which i guess to be about 53-54 gps).

By far my favorite ski. I like it more than my 99 SLH. More playful, faster, and the best at wave jummping.

Domestic Motor. Most challenging part right now is the ignition - CDIs and Stators seem to be hard to find, at a reasonable price anyway......

    Seems like an epidemic latley.
Maybe the domestic ignition is getting as old as the Fuji Fuel system.

Maybe, but its a hell of a lot cheaper to fix the Fuji fuel system!

I agree, I have heard the SL 900 was a bad ass under-rated machine but...

The single trailer is worth $300 alone....even without an updated stator, As long as you think the crank is good and compressions checks out, its a good deal.

It sounds like an awesome ski, and I am so bummed right now the guy that was supposed to show it tonight just told me he sold it so I'll have to wait until another one comes up, unfortunately I may never see as good a deal as that one was....sigh, but it sounds like the sl900 is what I want after hearing all the veteran ski owners input, thanks everyone.

The 1997 SL900 I have here right now happens to have a 1200 motor in it

But the stock 900 motor is no slouch!
