    '93 WR3 swap to 701

I have looked and looked and I find lots of partial pieces to my question. I realize this is probably covered completely somewhere, but I can't find it. From what I can see, this is the most informative forum, so I am asking for your help here. I am very mechanical, especially with cars/trucks. 2-stroke is a bit intimidating for some reason, but I am ready to learn.

Our family has a '93 WR3 that was bought new. It was 250 miles away from me. Been a great craft, nothing major besides a starter done until my parents allowed it to freeze. It runs for about 30 minutes, dies, and won't start again until it cools off. My sister had it at the dealer and they put a new power pack on at a cost of $1500. Didn't fix, same problem, now they decided it has a crack in the bottom of the case. Parents said they didn't want to fix it. I went and got it and brought it here. They bought a 2000 XL800 to replace it.

So, here is my delima: do I buy another used 650? or just a bottom end? Is it worth upgrading to a 701? We don't want to go fast, just cruise around. Is the extra power really useful in my application?

If I do swap to a 701, exactly what do I need? I know it bolts down and the coupler is the same. Same starter. I know the 701 has a higher rev limiter, but the 650 electronics will work. Intake and exhaust is where I get lost. There are single carb 701s that use the same 44mm carb that I can rejet. Will the intake and single carb from my 650 bolt onto a 701 if I rejet the carb or is the intake different? Can I fit a dual carb engine into this hull? If I can get dual carbs, what intakes work? What about flame arrestors? What do I use for exhaust? I think I understand that '94 701GP exhaust is for the same hull, but I don't know for sure? Can I use Waveraider exhaust?

Is there a single place that lists what to use to put a 701 in a waverunner 3 in place of a 650? Thank you very much in advance.

How about just this piece please. What exhaust will fit a 701 engine in a '93 WR3 where a 650 was? I understand '94 701 GP exhaust will fit. What about 701 WaveRaider? Thank you very much.

650 and 701 are practically the same everywhere but the piston size. Seems like I remember the exhaust spacing is wider on the 701, but that may be the Raider twin carb model. Check with PWCTODAY.com for more guys into the older ski's. The intakes and carbs are the same, you shouldn't have to rejet at all. Our W3back in the day went 50 with a single carb, big bore 753, and Group K hammer porting, along with a Riva pipe. I wouldn't go to the trouble to go twin carb, look at my sig to see both can be fast.
