gen 3 clutch and idler drive gear

Had one of my customers the dealer installed the new gen 3 clutch with the new idler drive gear that's needed. went out Saturday and then went out Sunday and after a while of riding he heard all kinds of grinding in the front and no more boost he said it sounded the same way his 2011 clutch teeth that came apart. So he thinks the teeth came apart on the new clutch also, He got 5 hours out of it since the gen 3 clutch was installed. It is a FZR and has a B1 set up runs right at 80 mph. He is suppose to drop it off tomorrow and i will take it apart and see what went wrong i hope the teeth did not break but i will update everyone once i see what happened. Thank you, Jim

So being new to the supercharged world... I dont understand why the high rate of failure? Is it only on higher boost skis? I have 5 hours on my ski (in about 2 weeks) do I need to plan on replacing the cluch soon or what?

Signing up to this Thread Since I've had the Gen 3 clutch for 2 weeks now and put 6 hours on it.

I can tell you with the original oem style clutch with a modded idler gear, i put about 10 hours on it with the c5 wheel and have about 5 hours on it with the lb et wheel, no slippage.
Know, next time i go out it will take a dump on me,right?

What year is the gen 3 clutch supplied as stock? I have heard mentioned 2013, but do 2012's have them? Looking at a 2013 FRS, but if the 2012 SHO Cruiser has the updated clutch may consider a end of year deal on one.

Some of the 2012 models have the gen 3 clutch. It depends on production date, and perhaps on country ski was intended for. A dealer might have that info, or could get it w/ a phone call to Yamaha corporate, since the parts aren't interchangeable. I'd like to know where the cut-off is too. There must be a "magic" engine serial number - anything higher is gen 3. The posts I remember mentioned Australia as having some gen 3 clutches in 2012 models. Hopefully others will chime in w/ more info.

Jerry had posted what 2012 skis had the new clutch and idler gear in them.
It might be in the sticky thread in regards to the 2013 models!
