'01 Virage TXI 1200... broke... engine "tight"?... $700... good deal?

Yes... I know... I can't help myself. I love projects and broken Polaris PWCs are my thing right now. And yes... I already *have* a few that I need to fix!
    STOP JUDGING ME!

Does this sound like a good "deal". It's a local CL ad:
Non Running Polaris Virage. Was a great very fun and very powerful ski before it died. Motor still turns a little, but very tight. Best guess is that it needs a new top end. 195 hours on the motor, hull, seat, console all in great condition. No trailer, includes a cover tho. Would like to get $700 obo and thats a loss for me.

What would you want to ask seller or check first?

    Cheers!

I would assume a complete engine rebuild could be required. Price that in.

Could be something as simple as a jammed Bendix or bad starter motor, or even a seized jet pump.

If salt water then assume lots of corrosion issues...

Yeah... rebuild sounds more certain now. Seller replied:
It was running fine when it died, can't do a compression check because im pretty sure that there is a bound up piston ring.
    Ouch!

It's a clean looking ski. You can do a complete engine rebuild for a decent price.

As Keith Said, it could also be something other than internal. Flywheel magnets let go? Jet pump seized? There are several 'inexpensive' fixes that could be the problem. But at $700 or less it would be a pretty sweet deal.

195 hours is getting up there. I would not at all be surprised if a full rebuild is necessary or at least advisable.

My x 45 had a locked up jet pump, but the motor was still shot in it. It ran, but when I pulled it apart there were problems.
