Could this be the clutch going ?

Last time I went out to ride I was suffering a little problem on my top end. My ski pulls hard throughout the whole RPM band but when it reaches around 8000 RPM it just sounds as though it's missing. I can feel the MPH drop (Sorry batteries died on my GPS) and the ski sounds as though it's kind off beating against the limiter. It doesn't do it all the time. I had two races against my pops ski and in the first race I pulled about 1-2 ski lengths and in the second I pulled about 5-6 and was still leaving it in my wake. In the first race it stayed 1-2 ski lengths for the whole race whilst in the second it just kept putting more and more ski lengths. In the second race the ski didn't make the noise and sounded pretty normal and felt pretty normal. In the first race I could definitely hear it and so could everyone on shore. I don't have every single detail on it as yet. I know you guys may need more info like exact RPM, MPH and boost #'s, but maybe you could kinda start to give me an idea of where to start looking. It's a 2009 FZR with all E1 and has 43 hrs on it and probably 38 with E1.

Don't worry I'm going to get exact MPH and also going to post a log of both runs. In the mean time you guys can start to post ideas.

    Thanks.

Sounds like detonation to me. What octane of fuel are you using?

I use 92 octane. But it's been like 20 hours with the same setup and this never happened before.

Could it possibly be and ignition cut from the ECU ?

I don't know enough about the Vipec to even try to guess. I've got to ask the obvious, how long on your current plugs?
Do you have access to a spare coil pack so you can swap out and see if one is on the way out?

I've been on my current plugs about ~30 hours. I will take the coil pack out of my pops ski and see if it makes a difference. But for a coil to go in such a short period would be absurd, but worth trying.

If you inspect the plugs, one may appear different enough to narrow the cylinder down for you. I only thought of the coils because I had one fail. I had between 20-30 hrs on the ski when I figured it out, but the epoxy (or whatever they fill the tops with) was very obviously cracked. I never figured out how/why it happened - maybe a factory defect. I'm sure the crack wasn't there when I did my first plug inspection at 10 hrs.

Yes, back then I was on the limiter - prior to the reflash. Just attributed it to being way into hard cut until I found the bad coil.

Also, have you checked your throttle body damper to make sure it hasn't failed? Might be loosing boost at WOT
