ECU flash backup, mod, restore
Hello everyone, I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but has anyone attempted to disassemble an ECU and expose the circuit board (PCB)? I would expect to see a comm port of some sort that allows access to the PROM for reading and writing. Ideally, a EJTAG port would be great. Most well designed circuit boards contain a EJTAG. However, that doesn't mean that access is not restricted.
What I'm getting at is that I would like to be able to mod my own ECU.
1. Read the PROM of my ECU
2. Save it to a bin file
3. Locate the code section that contains the boost and rev limits
4. Make the adjustments
5. Write back mod'd PROM.
Obviously, there is more to it than that. Especially if the MPU is access restricted and the PROM has a checksum.
1. Determine if there is a checksum byte that needs to be recalculated
2. Create a basic software tool that allows reading and writing
3. Include any checksum routines.
Of course the commercial guys have already done this, reversed the code, created their own code additions, maps, etc. So it can be done for sure. I just want to know if anyone here has done any non commercial hacking of the ECU.
Or is this topic off limits?

Wikispaces also was working on cracking the codes, pinouts, etc. You might search Wikispaces and others. I'd suggest you not have a whole lot of discussion here on your findings. http://www.greenhulk.net/forums/showthread.php?t=170034
