    1100 zxi super find!

I have a '95 900 zxi that I rebuilt at the beginning of the summer and we've ridden it all year. Mysteriously last time my wife rode it she came back in yelling "it's sinkin!" and sure enough she was right. Theres a fist sized hole in the hull. Well I kept my eye out for a 900 or 1100 zxi hull because they're interchangeable. I found this ski for $300 with a title no trailer. Guy said the motor was trashed. Click image for larger version.

After getting it home, I discovered the crank was fine!!! There's a piston that need replaced & the cylinders honed. I had a hole in the bottom crank case patched by a fantastic welder. Click image for larger version.

Not bad for $500 total investment. Now can anyone tell me anything I need to know about these skis?

I wish I could find deals! All I find is junk.

Check the bellows seal on the trim cable at the back of the 'Ski. Replace the oil lines and secure them with stainless safety wire. There is a plate on the front cover, under the oil pump, that is a cooling chamber for the stator. It often gets plugged with debris. Remove one of the cooling water hoses and gently blow through it to check for blockage.

It doesn't appear that it's had the 'nosebowl' mod. This is a piece that is glued to the front of the hull, below the water line. It was a mandatory recall, but a lot were never modified.

Talk to your local dealer and see if parts are still available to do this mod. It is a very important safety issue. Without the mod, the 'Ski can unexpectedly just flip over while traveling on smooth water at high speed.

It didn't flip on me. Instead, it suddenly turns to the side (either left or right).
It was 1997.... I was riding a borrowed 1100ZXi from a buddy on 1-foot chop water at WOT. I was doing probably 56-57 mph going dead-straight. Then suddenly & unexpectedly, the ski made a sharp 90-deg right turn. I got thrown off over the handlebar straight ahead as the ski turned to the right. The ski did not flip over.

ouch..anybody have the bulletin on that?...another shop in town just got hold of an 1100zxi that was in storage for 12 YEARS..that was a really clean ski..even when the fuel tan was just a septic tank full of sludge.

I put my 900 motor in it while waiting on parts. Thanks for all the advice. I need to check on the nosebowl thing. Ski ran good, but it's extremely bouncy. And if you guys think that thing looks good in the pics, you wouldnt believe it in person. The stickers arent even cracked. I was thinking about putting my 900 motor in my 98 750SS xi, but ive never done that kind of thing. There was barely any difference in the 900-1100 ZXI's. any ideas?

Plus i did install an oil block off. And that 1100 body did all of 50-55 with the 900 motor in it. This is my first year to work on these, and absolutely love them!!!

For bouncing or aka porpoising, try different sponsons like BeechHouse brand if you can find.
    Also, longer ride plate helps.
Will 1100 motor, you should be able to reach high 50s like 57-58 mph.
