900STX display won't work, blows fuse right away.

As soon as I replace the fuse labeled "clock" it blows right away. Any ideas. I assume this is why my display doesn't work.

Then you obviously have a short. I would open up the electrical box and check things out in detail. Not just the fuse cap, you will have to separate the upper box from the lower to see what condition it is in. Those boxes are notorious for having water in them, and of course the corrosion from the water. If you find water and corrosion, dry it out, clean everything up, sand the ground wire ends with sandpaper and re-attach. Unplug connectors, clean the ends and use some dielectric grease when going back together. It's tedious and takes a bunch of time but that is what it takes.

Just a tip: don't try and do this in the ski, unplug the wires going to the plugs, unplug all the wiring connectors (about 4), take out the four cover bolts that holds the box to the ski hull and get it out of there to open it up and work on it/clean it out.

Don't worry about replacing all those white connectors with the black covering that were suppose to seal the water out where the wires and so forth go into the box, they will just leak again after a while. After cleaning and getting it to work right, clean everything up with acetone or the likes, and silicone/rtv all those through the box sealing connectors, along with where the upper and lower box go together. Put some grease on the inspection cap/fuse cap o-ring to seal that up.

A service manual will have the wiring diagram with the color codes which helps a lot.

We just recently did all of this on a 900STX. Had the dang box in and out of there so many times we lost count. Ended up replacing the voltage regulator and eventually the CDI too. Can't remember the exact wire for the display but we got that working on ours.

    Ok

Sounds like good advice, maybe a rainy weekend project.
